Big & Simple Ideas
(reblogged via Aaron White)  There are two types of Internet startups…. Those that invent new technology. Those that invent new cultures. Google is an awesome example of #1. Tumblr is a fantastic example of #2. Tumblr does very little that is ‘new’, and everything it does was already possible (and presumably still easy to replicate). However, it pulls together familiar things...

Mechanization and Standardization
(reblogged via An Entirely Other Day) I have this little speech that I like to give to business types anytime they need convincing that building (expensive) software to do what (cheap) humans are currently doing is a good idea. They’re usually older, the business types, and wary of computers either out of unfamiliarity or because they were burned on previous projects. They know that you...

a simple to use video camera in your pocket
If you like the convenience of having a video camera in your mobile phone, but wish it did more (recorded longer videos, was easier to use, looked better, was easier to get into your computer or on YouTube), without the complexities and inconvenience of a regular camcorder (bulky, too expensive to treat roughly, need to keep special batteries charged), take a look at 2007’s best selling Flip...

for the audiophiles
If you’re a sound junkie and use a Mac, you should give WireTap Studio a serious look.  Ambrosia Software’s lossless audio tool is a relatively new kid on the block, but it’s already won a MacWorld Editor’s Choice Award (where you’ll find many other good programs, btw) and just got a favorable review at TUAW.  WireTap’s core features are that it can record...

all-in-one IM tools
A couple friends have asked me about this lately. Do you want or need to stay in touch with friends and colleagues who are using more than one of the disparate and incompatible instant messaging services? Are you annoyed with the need to use a different program or web page to access each of the these services? I’m talking about IM or chat services and programs like: AIM, Yahoo...

RH: lookit (folks lining up for new Apple Store in NYC).
MYKL: you did not go down and git a free iPod?
RH: uh, no.
MYKL: me, i'm about to get a non-Apple touch phone.
RH: so you've chosen one?
MYKL: yeah, see: http://del.icio.us/mykltrappler/LGVoyager
RH: (looking) voyager?
MYKL: yeah.
RH: ooh lookit all the piccies.
MYKL: it looks like THE choice, IF you've already chosen Verizon.
RH: looks cool.
MYKL: it's got a few pros over the iPhone, but not nearly as much of the "it just works".
RH: yeah, wow - really does looks like a wannabe iPhone, doesn't it?
MYKL: on the outside, very obviously.
RH: not that this is a bad thing, exactly.
MYKL: especially colors and styling.
RH: imitation = flattery.
MYKL: of course, for any touchphone, the basic style is gonna be the same: a touchscreen filling the front. what else makes sense?
RH: when u getting it?
MYKL: as soon as i have time to order. it's new and backordered a few weeks.
RH: i really wish they'd do Adium for Windows.
MYKL: Voyager has IM, email and web, plus better video camera, and qwerty keyboard. perfect for my social media compulsions.
RH: i read up on Voyager's features... looks v nice.
MYKL: LG enV is the other phone i looked at, previous generation of Voyager, without touchscreen, smaller screens. cheaper.

Simple To Do Lists with Taskpaper
Taskpaper is an easy to use substitute and enhancement for paper lists, which has been reviewed favorably at TUAW, 43 Folders and Infinite Loop.  If you’re looking for an uncomplicated way to use to do (and other) lists on your Mac, minus the distraction of innumerable extra features, yet with functionality you can’t get from a pad of paper – or if you just don’t want to carry...
